Last week came word that three of the most well-known female film directors currently working today – Kathryn Bigelow, Catherine Hardwick, and Mimi Leder – were all said to be on a shortlist to direct the reboot of the “Tomb Raider” film franchise.
Now at least one of them has ruled themselves out. A rep for “Zero Dark Thirty” helmer Bigelow tells Cinema Blend that the filmmaker has not had discussions with anyone about the project. On top of that, Bigelow reportedly “does not have any interest in directing this film.”
That also brings into question the original report. The film itself is very much moving forward though and will reportedly use the acclaimed origin-style 2013 reboot of the video game series as the basis for its story. Evan Daugherty is penning the script.
Bigelow’s name has been linked with a few projects recently from her long in the works dream project “Triple Frontier” to a biopic about Taliban captive Bowe Bergdahl.
