Betty Thomas has dropped out of directing “Alvin and the Chipmunks 3” causing Fox to rush out and find a new director reports The Los Angeles Times.
Thomas directed the second film in the series and with her departure it’s raised questions about what direction the franchise will take. Certainly plans to shoot in 3D are looking less and less likely.
At last report the story was to centre on the chipmunks getting shipwrecked with Hawaii likely to serve as a shooting location. Production is scheduled to kick off around the end of the year for a release December next year.
