Whilst free-to-air networks often see shows launch to big numbers and then slide in subsequent episodes, cable series generally take the opposite route – starting off with small numbers and then quickly increasing over seasons into ratings juggernauts.
If AMC’s “Breaking Bad” spin-off “Better Call Saul” follows that path, its future is very bright indeed. In Live+Same Day ratings, Sunday night’s first episode scored 6.9 million viewers and a 3.4 rating in adults 18-49 – making it the best series premiere in cable history.
The series was helped by the return of “The Walking Dead” which scored 15.6 million viewers and a 8.0 rating, remaining TV’s highest-rated series. The real test will be tonight when the second half of the two-hour series premiere airs without that lead-in.
