Jon Bernthal (“Marvel’s The Punisher”) and Vera Farmiga (“The Conjuring”) are in final talks to join “The Sopranos” prequel film “The Many Saints of Newark” at New Line.
Set in the era of the Newark riots in the 1960s, the ensemble drama takes place when African-Americans and Italians of Newark were at each other’s throats and when among the gangsters of each group, it became especially lethal.
Alessandro Nivola will play Dickey Moltisanti, the mentor of a very young Tony Soprano. Bernthal and Farmiga’s roles are unknown at this time.
It is expected that some of “The Sopranos” characters will make an appearance. Alan Taylor will direct from a script by David Chase and Lawrence Konner with the latter two producing.
