“Hell or High Water” filmmaker David Mackenzie and “Patriots Day” helmer Pete Berg are reportedly the frontrunners to direct the remake of “Scarface” at Universal Pictures.
The pair will take over from Antoine Fuqua who departed last week to focus on “The Equalizer” sequel at Sony Pictures. Mackenzie previously tried to get the “Scarface” directing gig but was passed over.
Joel and Ethan Coen did a recent polish on the script for this incarnation of the story which focuses on a Latino gangster in contemporary Los Angeles.
The new “Scarface” is slated to open on August 10th 2018.
