Broadway actor Benjamin Walker has scored the title role in the supernatural action thriller “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” for 20th Century Fox reports Variety.
“Wanted” director Timur Bekmambetov is helming this $69 million 3D film adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith’s comedic horror novel which exposes Abe’s secret diaries recounting his mission to eradicate the world of the undead bloodsuckers.
Walker was one of five actors who screen-tested over the last couple of weeks including Adrien Brody, Josh Lucas, James D’Arcy and Oliver Jackson-Cohen. The actor emerged as the front-runner and his deal was quickly locked down.
Walker recently starred in the Broadway play “Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson” which was another unconventional story of a U.S. President. He also starred as the teenage version of Alfred Kinsey in Bill Condon’s “Kinsey”, had a key role in Clint Eastwood’s “Flags of our Fathers”, and got to seriously make out with “Stargate Universe” hunk Brian J. Smith in the 2009 indie drama “The War Boys”.
The project kicks off filming in March for a release on June 22nd 2012.
