Acclaimed “Kill List,” “High-Rise” and “Free Fire” filmmaker Ben Wheatley has surprised with the inclusion of a whole new film titled “Happy New Year, Colin Burstead” at this year’s BFI London Film Festival slate. Wheatley reportedly shot the film in just eleven days starting in late February.
Joe Cole, Charles Dance, Mark Monero, Sam Riley, Asim Chaudhry, Doon Mackichan, Bill Paterson, Neil Maskell and Hayley Squires star in the project described as a “poignantly funny and razor-sharp observation of English family dysfunction”.
In the film, a young man named Colin has rented a stately country home for his extended family’s New Year celebrations. He’s the centre of attention until his estranged brother David unexpectedly arrives, throwing the family dynamic out of whack.
The film joins a line-up at the fest that includes “Destroyer,” “The Old Man & the Gun,” “Birds of Passage,” “The Little Stranger,” “Happy as Lazzaro” and “In Fabric”. It kicks off October 10th.
