The new “Ben-Hur,” a $100 million remake of the Biblical epic, has received painful pre-release tracking figures which suggests the film is set to have a debut in the $10-15 million range this weekend.
That’s considered a disastrous result considering the budget with Exhibitor Relations box office analyst Jeff Bock telling The Wrap: “That would qualify it as possibly the bomb of the summer… a hundred million dollar film opening in the teens is unacceptable.”
The film debuts across 3,100 locations this weekend with Paramount hoping it’ll hit the $20 million mark. “Suicide Squad” is likely to top the box-office again and has just passed the $500 million worldwide mark.
Other newcomers this week include “War Dogs” and “Kubo and the Two Strings” which are both expected to open to the $12-13 million mark, but were made for considerably less.
