“The Diary of a Teenage Girl” star Bel Powley will join Matthew McConaughey in the true story tale “White Boy Rick” for Studio 8.
Set in the 1980s, the story follows the transformation of a fourteen-year-old from undercover drug informant who, within three years, became a kingpin who was ultimately arrested. Bruce Dern, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Rory Cochrane also star.
Powley has been cast as his sister, McConaughey is his constantly broke father, and Cochrane and Leigh will play the boy’s handlers. The role of the young man has yet to be cast.
Yann Demange (“’71”) helms the movie which kicks off production in Detroit in March. Darren Aronofsky, Scott Franklin, Julie Yorn and John Lesher are producing.
