IMAX has announced that the entirety of Bill Condon’s live-action adaptation of Disney’s 1991 animated classic “Beauty and the Beast” will be released on those giant screens in a specially formatted presentation.
With a 1.9:1 aspect ratio, those seeing the film in an IMAX theater will see it fill the entire screen – giving you 26% more image in IMAX versus standard theaters. You can see this demonstrated in the animated gif below.
At the same time, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures have also announced that they are scheduling special opening night events for the film on Thursday, March 16th at approximately 590 locations nationwide.
The events, which are taking place ahead of the 7pm showings, will include special behind-the-scenes on-screen content and the only opportunity for in-theatre audiences to see Ariana Grande and John Legend’s music video for their “Beauty and the Beast” duet.
The 500 theaters include participating AMC, Regal, Cinemark, Marcus and Wehrenberg theaters, as well as the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. Bookings can be made through BeOurGuest.com.
“Beauty and the Beast” opens in cinemas on March 17th.
