Beaufoy To Pen Series Take On le Carre’s “Spy”

“Slumdog Millionaire” scribe Simon Beaufoy is set to pen a new limited series adaptation of John le Carre’s classic 1963 novel “The Spy Who Came in From the Cold” for AMC and The BBC.

The adaptation follows in the wake of the success of “The Night Manager” last year based on a le Carre work and produced by Character 7 who will do the same again here. The news was announced Saturday at the Television Critics Association winter press.

The story is set months after the creation of the Berlin Wall. An alcoholic British intelligence officer has found his East Berlin network left in tatters by a German counter-intelligence officer. Called back to London, he’s offered a chance at revenge. Richard Burton starred in a previous 1965 screen adaptation.
