Japanese comedian and actor Beat Takeshi (“Battle Royale,” “Johnny Mnemonic”) has joined the upcoming live-action film adaptation of Masamune Shirow’s iconic cyberpunk manga and anime franchise “Ghost in the Shell” at Paramount Pictures.
Scarlett Johansson, Pilou Asbaek, Michael Pitt and Sam Riley lead the cast of the film about the members of a covert ops unit that take on technology-related crime. Takeshi will play Public Security Section 9 founder and chief Daisuke Aramaki.
Rupert Sanders (“Snow White and the Huntsman”) helms from a screenplay adapted by Jonathan Herman (“Straight Outta Compton”). Avi Arad, Ari Arad and Steven Paul will produce the film which opens March 31st next year.
