Almost exactly a year ago came word that Jon Favreau’s upcoming ‘live action’ version (or rather a realistic CG animated reimagining) of Disney’s 1994 animated feature “The Lion King” would NOT include some of the film’s notable tracks – including the villain Scar’s big solo song “Be Prepared”.
Much like other Disney villain songs (ala “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” “Friends on the Other Side,” “Gaston”), the track is a memorable one and word of its exclusion was met with a disappointing reaction. At the time Elton John, who helped compose the original film with Tim Rice, said only four of their tracks from the original were making it – “Can You Feel The Love Tonight?,” “Hakuna Matata,” “I Just Can’t Wait To Be King” and “Circle of Life”.
Today, Skyler Shuler of The DisInsider (via Broadway World) is reporting that “Be Prepared” will be featured in the film after all: “I get this question a lot, but I’ve heard ‘Be Prepared’ will indeed be in THE LION KING remake” he tweeted.
The role of Scar, played by Jeremy Irons in the original, will be played by Chiwetel Ejiofor this time out and the song plays a big part in explaining Scar’s plan, reasoning and conviction. The new “The Lion King” is set for release on July 19th.
