BBC’s “Planet Earth” Gets A Sequel

The first series helped launch the Blu-ray format back in 2007, now BBC Worldwide has announced plans for a second series of its much acclaimed natural history documentary series “Planet Earth”.

David Attenborough has come on board to once again narrate the six-part series which will be a co-production of the BBC, BBC America, ZDF and France Televisions.

“Planet Earth II,” which was previously known by its working title “One Planet,” will explore the characteristics of Earth’s most iconic habitats and the extraordinary ways animals survive within them.

The first series was filmed entirely in high-definition (1080p), a rarity at the time. Now “Planet Earth II” will be one of the earliest documentary series to shoot entirely in ultra high-definition (2160p) – perfect material for 4K televisions and the new 4K Blu-ray format which premieres in stores later this year.
