BBC Hires Two For “Noughts And Crosses” Series

BBC One and Mammoth Screen (“Victoria”) have set UK filmmaker Kibwe Tavares to direct the first three episodes of its new drama series “Noughts And Crosses”.

Additionally “Being Human” creator Toby Whithouse has been brought onboard to oversee scripting on the six-episode dystopian young adult adaptation later this year.

Malorie Blackman’s book is set in an alternate 21st-century Britain in which whites and blacks are segregated following centuries in which Africans had a technological and infrastructural superiority over Europeans who they made their slaves.

The story deals with the daughter of a rich black politician as she falls for a young man of the white underclass. Discussions are also underway to potentially bring aboard a sizeable U.S. partner. Lydia Adetunji and Nathaniel Price are also executive producing.
