SNL comedian Bill Hader is coming off a stellar year with a leading man turn in “Trainwreck,” an acclaimed run on this season of “South Park,” and a role in the year’s most well-regarded animated film “Inside Out”.
Turns out there’s one other gig he did this year that no-one has talked about – he provided the “voice” of the soccer ball droid BB-8 in this weekend’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”. Hitfix spotted his name as “BB-8 Vocal Consultant” in the credits and asked him about the nature of his involvement in the film. He said:
“JJ f–king around with this sound effects app on his iPad that was attached to a talk box operated by me. It looked ridiculous but it made BB-8’s voice. At first I tried doing a voice, but we all agreed it sounded too human.”
Hader wasn’t the only one involved, another was “Parks and Recreation” actor Ben Schwartz. The film itself is slated to open tomorrow night in the United States.
