It has been confirmed on the official “Jurassic Park” franchise Twitter account that “The Impossible” and “The Orphanage” director J.A. Bayona has been set to direct the sequel to last summer’s “Jurassic World” and the fifth film in the overall series.
Bayona was previously reported to be in contention to direct the film but his commitment to the “World War Z” sequel put that in doubt. Now with Bayona having left that film, Universal Studios has quickly confirmed his jumping onboard the dino franchise.
Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly will pen the script for the film which is targeting a June 2018 release and also sees Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard reprising their roles.
Trevorrow helmed “Jurassic World” but couldn’t return for the follow-up due to his “Star Wars: Episode IX” commitment. Frank Marshall and Steven Spielberg will produce.
Bayona also helms the upcoming “A Monster Calls” which opens in cinemas later this year.
