With five DC Comics adaptations already airing on The CW network, super producer Greg Berlanti is adding a sixth – “Batwoman”.
Caroline Dries (“Smallville,” “The Vampire Diaries”) is reportedly writing a potential pilot for a “Batwoman” series, with the character to be introduced in this Fall’s annual crossover event between four of the five main shows. That airs in December.
Batwoman, aka Kate Kane, will also be the first gay lead character of a live-action superhero show. In the series, she will be a highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out Gotham City’s criminal resurgence and must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.
Casting will begin soon to fill the role of Batwoman and if the pilot is picked up, the series could be on the air by early 2019.
