Paramount TV and Anonymous Content have optioned the screen rights to EA DICE’s “Battlefield” video game property with plans to adapt it as a TV series.
The game series has amassed more than 60 million players worldwide since debuting in 2002 and has managed to sustain a strong reputation for quality games even as its main rival in its genre, “Call of Duty,” has slipped to some extent in recent years.
The single player campaign of the various titles drops gamers behind enemy lines with a particular focus on teamwork and vehicle warfare in various arenas. Fox previously tried to develop a TV series adaptation of the “Battlefield: Bad Company” titles but the project never made it to series.
This marks Anonymous Content and Paramount TV’s first foray into content based on a video game franchise. Michael Sugar and Ashley Zalta will executive produce the new series.
