Not including specially crafted convention previews, first trailers for blockbuster films are usually released around six months out from a film’s general release, though there have been exceptions to that rule.
1998’s “Godzilla” saw a specially crafted teaser trailer pop up in front of “Men in Black,” a full ten months before the movie hit cinemas. A more recent example of course was “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” which scored its first teaser trailer a full year out from the film’s opening.
Now, a rumor has emerged that the record might be broken again with the first trailer for “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”. El Mayimbe from Latino Review reports that Warner Bros. Pictures is looking to attach the preview to copies of its sci-fi action blockbuster “Jupiter Ascending” on February 6th – almost fourteen months ahead of the release of ‘Dawn of Justice’ on March 25th 2016.
This would be a more logical option than launching it with the Superbowl the week before, and these days it’s the online viewing audience numbers on Youtube and the like which matter. Warners has not confirmed the report. “Dawn of Justice” wrapped principle photography last month.
The Projection List has also posted an apparent list of the trailers attached to the film which include ‘Batman’ along with the the first trailers for “Magic Mike XXL” and “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” as well as the full trailer for “Furious 7”.
