Batman v Superman Goes Beyond Doomsday

One of the most common complains about the most recent trailer for “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” was that it seemed to essentially spell out the entire film.

Indeed it feels like the story beats are all there: Bat & Supes meet, and Lex Luthor manipulates the situation and Bruce Wayne’s paranoia in a way that leads to them fighting. When they resolve their differences, Lex tries to take out Supes using an experiment on Zod’s body that leads to the creation of Doomsday. Bat and Supes and Wonder Woman fight Doomsday – end credits.

Now, production designer Patrick Tatopoulos has assured people that the film still has plenty of surprises in store with a LOT more to the Doomsday story than you might expect, and suggests some kind of Bizarro twist as well. He tells Premiere:

“Doomsday isn’t just the final act… We are able to tell a story in a fresh way. Doomsday is an evolution essentially. Fans may be aware of ‘The Death of Superman’ story, but this is handled in such a new way.

When the film is called Batman v or versus Superman, it really has a lot of levels to the meaning. Superman isn’t just killed off at the end of something. We see how he evolves as part of Lex’s plan to protect the world.

Seeing the Superman we know, be gone, and then replaced with this reproduction is really going to make fans think of how we look at these super beings. It was especially interesting to figure out, how would you create Superman from Zod… then how would that evolve into Doomsday.”

Tatopoulos adds that there’s a “larger threat” in the film with fans lkely to be surprised by the “timeframe of how things fall into place… Those feeling they may know too much this early, are going to be in for a true surprise.” Does that mean those wild Darkseid rumors could be right?

UPDATE: Premiere has called out Cosmic Book News which posted the original interview translation – turns out the entire interview was fabricated by the site.
