Bastille Day Pulled From French Cinemas

In the wake of the terrorist attack in Nice, France on Thursday, Studiocanal has asked French exhibitors to pull the Idris Elba and Richard Madden-led thriller “Bastille Day” from cinemas.

The story contains unfortunate though only superficial similarities to the events in Nice that occurred on Bastille Day this year and took advantage of throngs of French citizens out celebrating the country’s national holiday.

In the film, Elba plays a former CIA agent and Madden is a con artist with the pair teaming up to stop a terrorist attack in Paris. Prior to the request, many theaters in France continued to screen the film.

France is holding a three-day national period of mourning for the victims, and the state of emergency that has existed in France since the devastating Paris terrorist attacks in November last year has been extended by three months.
