Michael Dowse’s hockey comedy “Goon” looks to be getting a sequel.
Actor/writer Jay Baruchel took to Twitter today and confirmed he and Jesse Chabot are working on a script for a “Goon” sequel. Evan Goldberg, who co-wrote the original with Baruchel, is back in a producing capacity while Dowse is returning as director.
Sean William Scott starred in the original as a bouncer who becomes an enforcer on an underdog semi-pro hockey team. For fans concerned about a sequel being rushed out, Baruchel posted the following in an attempt to assuage nerves.
“Please know this: GOON is pretty close to sacred for all of us involved and we would only be entertaining the idea of continuing the saga if we were all equally convinced that Doug, Laflamme, Stevesy, the Russians, Rolie, Ogilvy Belchy and Eva were only getting started. We will give them and you guys the epic, violent, heartfelt awesomeness that is not just deserved but required. HIGH. LAND. ERS.”
