Drew Barrymore is rumoured to be directing “Surrender Dorothy”, a “Wizard of Oz” sequel penned by Zach Helm (“Stranger Than Fiction”) reports Pajiba.
Barrymore was originally attached to star in the Warner Bros. Pictures project when it was first announced back in 2002, it’s not currently known if that’s still the case. The film would be her second directorial effort following on from “Whip It”.
The story follows the great, great granddaughter of Dorothy who has learned to use the power of the magic slippers to keep the Wicked Witch of the West from taking control of not just Oz but Earth as well.
The project is not to be confused with “The Great Powerful”, an adaptation that Robert Downey Jr. is circling to star and both Sam Mendes and Adam Shankman are tipped to direct.
