Barbra Streisand is in negotiations to star in an adaptation of the Broadway musical “Gypsy” reports The New York Times.
The musical is a showbiz tale about a driven mother who wants to turn her daughters into stage stars with Streisand taking the role of Mama Rose herself. The film would mark Streisand’s first musical since 1983’s “Yentl”.
Streisand recently received the approval of Arthur Laurents who wrote the book for the show and controls some of the rights. Laurents has suggested Tom Hanks for the role of Herbie and “Barbra loved the idea”.
