Sony Pictures has locked in three scribes to pen three different scripts for its upcoming “Barbie” movie based on the classic Mattel toy.
Bert Royal (“Easy A”), Hilary Winston (“Happy Endings”) and Lindsey Beer will each write their own scripts for the live-action feature, the best will be selected and further drafts will likely move forward from there.
“Juno” scribe Diablo Cody recently turned in a script for the property, the second writer to take a crack following a previous draft from Jenny Bicks. Both were underwhelming enough they’ve decided to proceed with this strategy.
Amy Pascal, Laurie MacDonald and Walter F. Parkes are producing.
