Banks To Direct “Charlie’s Angels” Reboot

Actress and “Pitch Perfect 2” director Elizabeth Banks is in negotiations to direct a reboot of the “Charlie’s Angels” film franchise at Sony Pictures.

Banks and her husband Max Handelman would also produce the film with a search now underway for a scribe.

A hit TV series in the 1970s, the premise followed three female detectives (Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith) who worked for a mysterious benefactor named Charlie (only heard as a voice) and his representative Bosley.

In 2000 the property was revived on the big screen with Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu starring as the girls whilst the likes of Bill Murray and Bernie Mac played Bosley.

McG helmed both films in the series and though the first went well, the second was a dud and so no further entries were produced. The franchise was again revived in 2011 as a TV series, but it lasted only four episodes.
