They previously worked together on 2005’s “The New World”, now filmmaker Terrence Malick and actor Christian Bale look set to be re-teaming for the next project from the perfectionist director.
Twitchfilm reports that Bale has been cast as the lead in the currently untitled project which is due to shoot in early 2012. Bale was originally attached to star in Malick’s other untitled movie currently in post-production. Ben Affleck ultimately scored the lead role in that.
The new project will have a smaller cast with Malick currently mulling over the likes of Rooney Mara, Haley Bennet, Clemence Poesy and Mia Wasikowska for the female lead. Sarah Green is set to produce.
The project itself comes as a surprise as it continues Malick’s suddenly rapid approach to filmmaking. The man famously took years between projects with his first four films hitting in 1973, 1978, 1998 and 2005 respectively. With “The Tree of Life” this year, the Affleck-led project in 2012 and the now Bale-led project likely hitting in 2013, Malick will have almost doubled his output in a very short timespan.
