Bale-Led “Hostiles” Enters The Awards Race

A day after the Joaquin Phoenix-led “You Were Never Really Here” left this year’s awards race with a move to February next year, the Christian Bale-led “Hostiles” has now joined it.

Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures (“47 Meters Down”) has picked up the rights to Scott Cooper’s “Hostiles” and plans to release it in time this year’s Oscars race with a limited run sometime in December.

Set in 1892, the story follows an Army captain (Bale) who agrees to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief through dangerous territory. Reviews out of Telluride and Toronto were very positive, but warned of it being a ‘slow burn’ tale.

Rosamund Pike, Wes Studi, Adam Beach, Ben Foster, Jesse Plemons, Rory Cochrane, and Q’orianka Kilcher co-star.
