Bale, Hillcoat Take On “The Revenant”

Christian Bale is in talks to star and Aussie filmmaker John Hillcoat (“The Road,” “The Proposition”) is lined up to direct period revenge tale “The Revenant” for Anonymous Content says Bloody Disgusting.

Based on the novel by Michael Punke, the story follows solider/adventurer Hugh Glass who, after being attacked by a bear along the Missouri River and left for dead by his friends, sets out to hunt them down for leaving him behind.

Mark L. Smith (“Vacancy”) is penning the script and is also at work on the latest draft of a remake of French horror film “Martyrs”. Samuel L. Jackson was previously attached to the project when Park Chan-Wook was slated to direct years ago.

Hillcoat’s next effort premieres on Fox over the weekend – a half-hour short film based on Rockstar’s critically acclaimed video game “Red Dead Redemption” currently in stores. That film is described as a ‘re-imagining’ of the story and thus shouldn’t spoil those still playing the game.
