Remember those automatic fitting Nike shoes from the 2015-set scenes in “Back to the Future Part II”? Well now Nike has created the 2011 Nike Mag, a limited-edition pair of sneakers which are almost an exact replica.
Nike is releasing 1,500 pairs for auction on eBay with all proceeds being donated to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s disease research. The sneakers can glow for up to five hours per charge, however they do not have the ability to lace themselves like in the film.
Unlike the shoes in the movie, the real-life versions had to be designed for day-to-day use – Michael J. Fox wore a battery pack with wires running down his pants to keep them illuminated in the film. These versions took four years to design.
The auction is now underway on Nikemag.ebay.com/shoes and will continue for the next ten days with 150 pairs being auctioned each day. Be prepared to spend big though – current bidding is sitting at around $4,000 – $8,000 a pair.
