Back To School Gets A Docuseries Remake

MGM Television is developing a docu-series inspired by the iconic 1986 Rodney Dangerfield comedy “Back to School”.

In that film, Dangerfield played plus size men’s fashion magnate Thorton Melon who enrols in college with his son to keep him from dropping out. He soon triggers a series of comedic mishaps on campus. A young Robert Downey Jr. also starred.

The docu-series re-imagining will follow college students with their surprise new classmates – their parents. Both children and parents will experience ‘the best years of your life’ together, but at vastly different ages.

MGM Television chief Mark Burnett and MGM’s unscripted TV chief Barry Poznick will executive produce the series along with Joan Dangerfield. MGM Television will distribute the series internationally.
