A major reason the producers of Disney+ series “The Mandalorian” were able to keep the secret of what fans are dubbing ‘Baby Yoda’ was one of the most basic – no merchandising.
More specifically they asked the studio to delay merchandise manufacturing featuring the character until after the series premiered according to creator-writer Jon Favreau, but by doing so fans keen to have those toys for their desks weren’t likely to get them in the near future.
Disney, however, will never be stopped from making a buck as soon as they can and so CNBC reports that ‘The Child,’ the official name for the character, will be featured on t-shirts, toys, accessories, and other merchandise to be made ready not only before Christmas but by the end of the month.
The studio reportedly has a pretty aggressive merchandising strategy already in place with Amazon, Zazzle, Target, Kohl’s, Macy’s, Hot Topic, and Box Lunch along with the Disney Store, ShopDisney and at the Disney Parks are all readying to sell the tie-in merchandise imminently with shirts already being spotted in the wild – all just two weeks after the little guy was revealed to the world.
“The Mandalorian” remains airing on Disney+ with new episodes through until the end of December.
