Julius Avery (“Son of a Gun”) is set to direct the WWII supernatural thriller “Overlord” for Paramount Pictures and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot.
The story follows two paratroopers who, after being shot down over Normandy in the midst of the D-Day invasion, discover that a sinister Nazi experiment has given rise to an additional, supernatural evil (suspected to be zombies).
The project is based on an original idea by Abrams and “The Hunger Games” screenwriter Billy Ray, Ray is providing the screenplay for the project which has been in the planning stages for nearly a decade.
“The Revenant” scribe Mark L. Smith also provided a script polish for the project and meetings are already underway in Hollywood to cast Overlord‘s two leads. Avery will first direct “The King of LA” for Scott Free Productions.
As with any Bad Robot production going forward that’s an original genre work, the obvious question is – will “Overlord” become another “Cloverfield” project? We’ll have to wait and see.
