If you love your promo shots, your superhero news factoids and your Marvel heroes, today is heaven for you. So many blue steel looks, so little time so lets gets started.
First up the gossip. A comment by actress Jenny Agutter to Radio Times about misparked trailers has been blown out of proportion to the point that some circles online firmly believe “The Avengers” will have a cameo by Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man. Not true, move on.
Next comes all the talk about the villain – we know antagonist Loki has an alien race behind him and speculation has long been that it’s the Skrulls or a variation on them. Another bit of gossip the other month had Red Skull making a cameo as a villain.
Well Empire is doing an Avengers-themed issue for March and inside is a chat with Marvel’s Kevin Feige who quickly throws some cold water on all the talk. First up, the Skrulls – “It’s not Skrulls, I’ve been clear about that. Beyond that, we want to hide it. The identity of the alien race is not impactful. It exists in the comic books, but we’re not setting up the Kree-Skrull war or anything like that.” What about Red Skull? “It would be fun to see Skull in future, but he’s not in this one.”
Now, onto the promo material. Tying into that Empire issue mentioned above are several different themed covers for the film – you can see those below:
Not enough? Well how about grain-ridden scans of some new photos from the same issue, not to mention another ‘cover’ which combines those three above and Black Widow into one giant Photoshop lovefest.
Still too straight forward for you? Let’s try something a bit more obtuse like perfume tie-ins. Yes it seems that fragrance-makers JADS International have unveiled a new line of cologne based on “The Avengers”, and there’s in-jokes with them too like the Iron Man-themed one containing a hint of Mandarin. Now you too can smell like The Hulk.
Too strange? Bringing it home is the official artwork for the film’s comic book tie-in story.
