Tickets for James Cameron’s much-hyped sci-fi action epic “Avatar” are already on sale, four months in advance of its global release on December 18th says the trades.
Such an early release of tickets is unheard of and early sales are said to be going “healthy” according to spokesmen for leading online film ticket sellers.
Over 75 AMC locations, most of them Imax 3D venues, began selling tickets starting last Friday, coinciding with the public screenings of a special 16-minute “Avatar” trailer at over 100 Imax theaters worldwide.
Its unclear if any other exhibs will follow AMC’s lead in offering early advance ticketing on the film. At present, no-one can offer anything but tickets for the first midnight performances.
Further sessions will not be determined until the film’s runtime is finalised, early estimates have it at between 150-180 minutes.
