Ava DuVernay, who is working on a big-budget adaptation of the DC comic “New Gods” for Warner Bros. Pictures, is expanding her relationship with the studio.
DuVernay has signed a multi-year deal with Warners Television, one worth a reported $100 million, which will ensure it will be the exclusive destination for all of DuVernay’s various TV-related projects, including drama and comedy series, specials, documentaries, and digital content.
Unlike other recent major deals that producers have done with Netflix or Amazon, DuVernay’s deal with Warners TV means whatever she produces could end up on any number of networks or streaming services. It also doesn’t interfere with her film work in any way.
She currently produces “Queen Sugar” for OWN and the upcoming CBS limited series “Red Line”. She will finish her proposed “Central Park 5” series and Prince documentary before doing work for Warners television.
