Ava DuVernay Adapts Octavia Butler’s “Dawn”

Acclaimed filmmaker Ava DuVernay is teaming with writer-director Victoria Mahoney for a TV series adaptation of Nebula and Hugo Award-winning author Octavia E. Butler’s 1987 sci-fi novel “Dawn”.

Mahoney will pen the series about an African-American woman who works with aliens to resurrect the human race 250 years after a nuclear war. The book was the first in what’s dubbed the “Lilith’s Brood” trilogy.

King, DuVernay, Kim Roth, Poppy Hanks, Allen Bain, Gary Pearl, Thomas L. Carter and Teddy Smith will executive produce the series which will be made by Macro, Forward Movement, Oil & Cattle and Bainframe.
