Austin Abrams (“The Americans,” “The Walking Dead”) has scored the lead role of Clay in the upcoming TV series adaptation of the acclaimed Bret Easton Ellis’ novel “Less Than Zero” for Hulu.
Set in Los Angeles in the 1980s, Clay comes home for Christmas vacation from his Eastern college and re-enters a landscape of limitless privilege and absolute moral entropy. He tries to renew feelings for his girlfriend and best friend as he descends into a dizzying spiral of desperation that takes him through relentless parties and the seamy world of L.A. after dark.
Abrams will be playing the role previously portrayed by Andrew McCarthy in the 1987 adaptation. Robert Downey Jr., James Spader and Jami Gertz co-starred in the original.
