August, Burton & The “Monsterpocalypse”

John August is in negotiations to pen the film adaptation of the strategy game “Monsterpocalypse” for Dreamworks Pictures says Heat Vision.

Matt Wilson’s creation involves game maps on which all manner of Japanese-inspired monsters, aliens, robots and insects do battle while laying waste to the cityscape, which changes for each game.

DreamWorks has been wooing Tim Burton to direct the project and is in talks with him. If they succeed, the film will be their fifth collaboration together after “Big Fish,” “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” “Corpse Bride” and the upcoming “Dark Shadows” film which could begin production towards the end of this year.

Of course scheduling is an issue and it’s expected that if “Monsterpocalypse” goes ahead then ‘Shadows’ would likely be delayed a good while, or vice versa. Richard Zanuck is likely to be involved as producer on “Monsterpocalypse”, but no deals have been struck.
