Originally slated for an August 2015 release and then unsurprisingly pulled late last year as it had not even begun production yet, the film adaptation of the popular “Assassin’s Creed” video game series has found a new haystack in which to land.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has confirmed in a company earnings call that New Regency has given the film a green light and production has already begun. On top of that, a new release date of December 21st 2016 has been selected.
Justin Kurzel (“Snowtown,” “Macbeth”) helms the film in which Michael Fassbender will play a man asked to relive his ancestor’s lives through the magic of cutting-edge DNA technology.
The games themselves are parkour-based stealth action games set in different period settings, and it’s uncertain which particular period or setting the film version will utilise.
