Last week came a story that John Diggle, the character that actor David Ramsey plays on The CW’s “Arrow,” was potentially being lined up as a future small screen Green Lantern.
At the time Ramsey said he knew something was being discussed by the show’s producers about this, but he was in the dark as much as we all are. This week, the show’s producer Marc Guggenheim spoke with MTV News and shot down the casting talk. In the process though, he may have revealed something else:
“It’s funny, I’ve spoken to David quite a bit about this issue, I know it keeps coming up. I spoke to [writer] Geoff Johns at DC after that interview went viral. Basically, John Diggle is now a character in the comics… John Diggle is John Diggle. We’re not being coy and saying John Diggle is someone else, i.e. John Stewart.
DC has other plans for that character. We love David, and we love the character of John Diggle that he’s created. We have really cool plans for him… they involve a wedding ring, but they don’t involve a power ring.”
Does this indicate they can’t include John Stewart because Warners has plans for the character to be a part of their upcoming DC Cinematic Universe initiative? Said move would certainly distance the character from the maligned Ryan Reynolds-led Hal Jordan version.
Guggenheim also revealed that two existing characters on the show will be revealed as quite well known DC Comics characters in the near future.
