After a little over a season of overdoing it on the green eyeshadow, Stephen Amell’s Green Arrow costume on The CW’s “Arrow” is getting an update – to finally include a mask.
While the show has remained admirably grounded despite its heavy comic book mythology, one factor that has begun to stretch credibility a bit has been Oliver Queen’s disguise – especially as the ‘Arrow’ is interacting much more this season with other major characters unaware of his true identity. Of the change, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg tells EW:
“Conceptually, it was something we wanted to do because Oliver himself is evolving as the Arrow- from vigilante to hero, sort of from Arrow to Green Arrow – and we wanted to see that progression in his costume as well.
As Oliver is embracing being a hero, being a hero means stepping out of the dark and being more of a symbol, so he has to stake steps to conceal his identity more.
it’s going to allow the Arrow to interact with people who don’t know his identity in a much more organic way than having him constantly keep his head down.
The costume tweak appears in the December 11th episode and the mask will actually serve as a plot point within the episode – “There really is a story behind, not only the need for the mask but also who provides him with it” says Kreisberg.
