Darren Aronofsky returns to screens next month with “mother!” which just released its second trailer ahead of the film’s premiere soon in Venice.
Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Ed Harris lead the story of a couple’s relationship that’s tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence.
Speaking with EW this week, Aronofsky says the film is closer in spirit with “Black Swan” to anything else he’s done. With a focus on a woman dealing with a psychological breakdown that may or may not be real. Aronofsky wants to keep the mystery about it as long as he can:
“But what is, you know, actually happening? The best thing about this film will be the surprise of it. It’s an intense journey and it’s definitely the biggest roller coaster in the park. Only get on it if you really want to do the loop-the-loop. We all know every f–ing thing all the time. That’s good for some things and bad for others. We have to keep this mystery going if we can.”
“mother!” opens on September 15th
