Archie Comics has announced that the TV series “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” won’t be joining its sister show “Riverdale” on The CW. Instead, the show will be coming to Netflix and has been officially greenlit for not one but two seasons to be shot back-to-back.
The dark coming-of-age story deals with horror, the occult, and witchcraft and will see Sabrina struggle to reconcile her dual nature of being half-witch and half-mortal while protecting her family and the world from the forces of evil.
“Riverdale” showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will pen the pilot for the new series which Lee Toland Krieger will helm. Aguirre-Sacasa, Berlanti, Sarah Schecter, and Jon Goldwater are attached as executive producers.
Despite the connections, the move to Netflix suggests the series will stay truer to the comics and will thus avoid direct connections to “Riverdale”. No release date or casting announcements have been made as yet.
