Disney and Marvel’s “Ant-Man” is reportedly headed for a $58 million opening at the U.S. box-office this weekend, whilst Amy Schumer’s raunchy rom-com “Trainwreck” will end up with about half of that as early estimates put it at $29 million.
Both estimates are down on Friday’s earlier numbers which suggested $65 million and $35 million respectively. “Ant-Man” is certainly down on last year’s Marvel late Summer opener “Guardians of the Galaxy” which took $94 million and scored more impressive critical reaction, pushing that movie to over $330 million.
“Trainwreck” is in line with Melissa McCarthy’s “Spy” which opened to the same amount last month and has shown good staying power thanks to solid reviews. In its second week, Universal’s “Minions” plunged 60% and is set to take second place with $47 million.
“Jurassic World” and “Inside Out” are fighting it out for fourth place with both set to score around $10.4 million each. ‘Jurassic’ will pass $600 million in the U.S. this weekend, whilst the Pixar movie will go past $300 million.
