Anson Mount To Exit “Star Trek: Discovery”

Anson Mount To Exit Star Trek Discovery

It was expected, but still sad to hear all the same – Anson Mount’s Captain Christopher Pike will not be returning for a third season of CBS All Access and Netflix’s “Star Trek: Discovery”.

The series seems to be replacing the U.S.S. Discovery’s captain every season – the first had Jason Isaacs’ Gabriel Lorca while the recently wrapped filming and currently airing second season has Mount’s Christopher Pike in charge.

Mount’s work has been widely praised in the role, but his contract was a one-year deal only and it looks like it’s staying that way. The same is also reportedly true of Rebecca Romijn’s Number One, though her character has only appeared in one episode in a few scenes so far. Both are now set to leave at the end of the season.

Showrunner Alex Kurtzman says the plan is to “synchronize with canon by the end of this season” in which case Pike’s fate is known. The series has already established the events of the current season take place a few years after those of “The Cage” pilot episode of the original 1960s series.
