“Baby Driver” and “The Fault in Our Stars” actor Ansel Elgort is set to lead the dramatic TV series “Tokyo Vice” for WarnerMedia’s streaming service.
The project has been given a ten-episode straight-to-series order and is based on Jake Adelstein’s non-fiction book of the same name which is a first-hand account of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police beat.
In his first small screen role, Elgort plays Jake Adelstein – an American journalist who embeds himself into the Tokyo Vice police squad to reveal corruption. The series will chronicle Jake’s daily descent into the neon soaked underbelly of Tokyo, where nothing is what it seems.
J.T. Rogers will write the adaptation with Destin Daniel Cretton directing. John Lesher, Emily Gerson Saines, and Elgort will serve as executive producers.
Elgort will soon be seen as the lead in Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story” musical.
