Millennium Films is planning a live-action prequel to Alexandre Dumas’ classic tale “The Three Musketeers” says Variety.
The new film will show how Athos, Porthos and Aramis first came together with D’Artagnan to be introduced at the end or in a potential sequel.
Millennium helped revive the “Rambo” series earlier this year and this film adds to a slate of classic character reduxs on their books including Buck Rogers, Conan the Barbarian, Hercules and Red Sonja.
“The Three Musketeers” and other works by Dumas involving the characters have been adapted on screen many times before, the last major US studio interpretation being Disney’s 1993 feature with Charlie Sheen, Kiefer Sutherland, Chris O’Donnell, Oliver Platt and Tim Curry.
Jeremy Irons, John Malkovich and Gerard Depardieu also played older versions of the characters in the 1998 film “The Man in the Iron Mask”.
