Anne Hathaway Up For “Rock of Ages”

Hot on the heels of word that Tom Cruise has locked down his deal, Anne Hathaway is now in talks join him in the film adaptation of Broadway musical “Rock of Ages” for New Line Cinema says Deadline.

The story centers on two people who meet at the Sunset Strip club Rock of Ages, fall in love and try to stay together amid ’80s rock anthems. Adam Shankman (“Hairspray,” “The Pacifier”) will both direct and choreograph the feature.

Hathaway will play a journalist who is writing a revealing article on Tom Cruise’s character, Stacee Jaxx. Along the way, she ends up falling for the aging rock star and the two would perform a duet based on duet of Foreigner’s “I Want To Know What Love Is”.

Show creator Chris D’Arienzo has penned the adaptation which Michael Arndt (“Little Miss Sunshine”) has polished. Carl Levin, Matt Weaver, Scott Prisand, Tobey Maguire and Jennifer Gibgot will produce. Filming aims to begin in May.
